David Lynch and Donovan Join Forces to
Promote Consciousness-Based Education

Academy Award-nominated film director David Lynch and famed singer-songwriter Donovan joined forces in January 2007 to promote Consciousness-Based education at hugely successful events in Lincoln Center, New York; the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; and the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.

Catching the Big Fish

These events were the culmination of a national book tour organized by the Institute’s media team. In January, David published his new book entitled Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity, which was selected by Barnes & Noble, Borders, and Waldenbooks for special nationwide sales promotions that same month, guaranteeing a huge boost in public awareness of Consciousness-Based educational programs.

Institute media director Bob Roth accompanied David on this book tour in order to maximize the extensive press coverage resulting from these promotions. The response was phenomenal: at Barnes & Noble in New York, for example, more than 1,000 people attended David’s reading and book signing, with 2,000 more turned away at the door. David’s book quickly became the number-one bestseller in Washington, D.C., and rose to the number-six spot on the Los Angeles Times bestseller list.

As the culmination of this tour, David and famed singer-songwriter Donovan joined forces for three major events — at Lincoln Center in New York; the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; and the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. Each venue was completely sold out, with audiences including the most prominent and influential leaders of society. These events drew extensive, positive national press — including a PBS special broadcast of the Kodak Theater Donovan concert in April 2007 — and have helped create significant new funding for TM programs in schools across the nation.

Hungarian Embassy

On January 13th, in response to the success of this tour, the Ambassador of Hungary invited David and Donovan to speak and perform at the Hungarian Embassy in Washington, D.C., to an audience of 60 top-tier international leaders, including Tony Lake, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs under President Clinton; Zbigniew Brzezinski, National Security Advisor to the President from 1977 to 1981; and Stephen Trachtenberg, President of George Washington University. The audience responded very positively to the presentation, which emphasized Consciousness-Based education and the establishment of world peace through large peace-creating groups, and the event was covered in depth by the Washington Post.
