February Brings Great Upsurge of Media Coverage

Thanks to the outstanding work of Dr. John Hagelin’s national media team at the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy, media coverage of Maharishi’s Consciousness-Based programs exploded in February, with hundreds of simultaneous reports published in prestigious national and international newspapers and journals.

TM and education: On February 15, the International Herald Tribune, a publication of the New York Times, featured a comprehensive article on the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation program in education. Titled “Meditation Helps Students,” the article appeared in a special education supplement and contrasted with many accompanying reports on the failures of modern education. TM and health: In its January issue, the American Journal of Hypertension published new research showing that TM reduces high blood pressure more effectively than progressive muscle relaxation or health education, and also reduces the use of antihypertensive medication (to read the abstract, click here). These findings are especially significant because cardiovascular disease, for which hypertension is a risk factor, is the nation’s number one killer.

Several national news services covered the release of this new research, including the Associated Press, Reuters, HealthDay, and Knight-Ridder. As a result, news of this research appeared in hundreds of magazines and newspapers across the country, including Newsweek, Forbes, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Miami Herald, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Sacramento Bee, the Kansas City Star, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The story also received extensive television coverage, with reports on CBS TV’s “Health Watch” and ABC News.

Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture: On February 13, the Des Moines Register published a very positive front-page article in its Agriculture section describing the operation of Maharishi Vedic Organic Farms in Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa. The story, entitled “Undercover Crops: Organic Growers Patiently Strive for State’s Largest Greenhouse Operation,” shows how this initiative is transforming agricultural production for the entire Midwest and is also producing a very high quality of food. The Raj: Iowa Public Television’s popular show “Living in Iowa” aired a nine-minute report about The Raj, America’s premier health resort in Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa. The report detailed the Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health and cited the Raj as among the foremost health spas in the world.

This great upsurge of interest in Maharishi’s Consciousness-Based approaches in all areas of life indicates a great awakening in global consciousness, attributable to Maharishi’s worldwide activities for over fifty years to usher in a beautiful new era of peace, health, and prosperity for the entire family of nations.
