Global Medical Journal Publishes Article By Institute Fellow

Sarina J. Grosswald, Ed.D.

An article by Institute Fellow Sarina J. Grosswald, Ed.D., has just been published in the medical journal Global Healthcare 2002.

Global Healthcare 2002 is the official publication of the World Medical Association, whose members include the national associations of physicians from 70 countries around the world, such as the American Medical Association, the German Medical Association, Japanese Medical Association, Royal College of Physicians, and many others. The journal is distributed to its over 8 million members globally.

Dr. Grosswald’s article, “Meeting the Healthcare Challenges of the Future—Moving from Disease Care to Healthcare,” describes how the Transcendental Meditation® technique can effectively reduce or eliminate the global disease burden predicted for the year 2020 by the World Health Organization.

Describing the impact of the TM® technique, the article concludes, “By managing the collective and individual stress effectively—the underlying cause of the conditions expected to create greatest illness—and by actually preventing these diseases by the same approach, global care can accomplish its greatest purpose, moving from disease care to healthcare.”

Dr. Grosswald is Director of Continuing Medical Education for InforMED and is President of her own consulting firm, SJ Grosswald & Associates. She has 25 years of experience in medical education. Before starting her firm in 1994, Dr. Grosswald was Associate Director of Education for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Her work has also included positions with the National High Blood Pressure Education Program and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.

In the last few years, Dr. Grosswald has been promoting prevention-oriented approaches in education and policy development for all fields of medicine, especially preventive medicine, in order to bring these issues to the forefront of U.S. healthcare policies.

As part of these initiatives, Dr. Grosswald created the Continuing Medical Education program on the Transcendental Meditation program and Maharishi Vedic Medicine. The first course (“Stress and Cardiovascular Disease: Research and Applicability of the Transcendental Meditation Technique for Managing Cardiovascular Risk”) is now available on CD-ROM from Enlightenment Gifts at
